Design Your Websites Like Your Users Are Drunk

Inspired by @letitiajoseph.official on Instagram.

Effective communication is clear and simple. An idiot should be able to understand you. Designing a website as if its users will be drunk is a great way to dummy-proof it.

Make sure that your website:

• Is easy to read

• Is easy to understand

• Makes it easy to find what you want people to find

Here is a great checklist for this technique:

• Would a drunk person on your website know how your product transforms them?

• Would a drunk person on your website know how to get your services?

• Would a drunk person on your website know why you're trustworthy?

• Would a drunk person on your website know how to fill out your form(s)?

• Would a drunk person on your website know how to contact you?

I don't condone getting drunk on purpose to test your website. So here are some creative ways to see if your website passes the drunk test:

• Go to a bar and ask for feedback on your website.

• Ask a young child (around 5 years old) for an evaluation.

• Buy some "beer goggles."

Get creative! What ideas do you have to see if your website passes the drunk test?

I do keep a record of the information on this form in order to better serve my clients. It's tough to communicate to people if you don't have their name or contact information. But rest assured, I don't share this information with anyone.
